Shrivedant Foundation, founded in 2001 by Smt. Vaishali Shah and family, aspires to bring forth nuggets from the treasure house of BhartiyaSanskriti (Indian Culture) based on Sanatana Dharma to contemporary students and scholars worldwide. The vast treasury of wisdom that lies in the pages of our ancient Scriptures will be made available to those desirous of getting acquainted with our ancient lore. Seekers of this priceless knowledge can now rest assured that authentic information will be easily accessible through the efforts of our Foundation.

Digitisation

Shrivedant Foundation has undertaken the ambitious task of digitizing Scriptures. Hindu Scriptures are vast repositories of knowledge that have universal relevance and transcend time and space. They are endless-AnantovaiVedaha. No one knows exactly when they were created though scholars have attempted innumerable times to fix a date on them. They are highly sophisticated and reveal an intellect that is highly evolved. Every aspect of human life from the practical and mundane to the metaphysical and lofty find mention here. This is the rich legacy of every Indian. It is unfortunate that many of our countrymen are unaware of our rich past. This could be due to the non availability of these Scriptures or it could also be due to ignorance of our past.

Shrivedant Foundation aims to bridge this gap and has embarked on the ambitious task of digitizing our Scriptures. This would ensure greater visibility and availability of Scriptures to the educated public. There are more than five hundred scriptures ready for digitization. These can be published as texts at a later stage. Placing the scriptures online under one umbrella will benefit scholars and serious students worldwide as they can have them at a mere click. We plan to build a corpus of study material useful for research. The Foundation wants to create a true copy in word file by actual DTP or Desk Top Publishing and not by creating PDF files which cannot be reused.

The cost of this grand project will be close to One million USD. We would like to appeal to generous minded Indians and others worldwide to participate in this noble venture and propagate the message of our Scriptures. The world going through so many upheavals at this juncture should listen to the universal truths that form the core message of these Scriptures. It is our sacred duty to share this with the entire world. We invite you to support our cause.

There are a total of 800 books containing 200,000 pages awaiting this procedure. We digitize one book every three months in original word file which will be extremely useful for seekers and the generation next.

The cost of digitizing each page is INR 10/- which includes the cost of infrastructure, software, and man power. Participants can choose the number of pages they want to digitize from the books listed. Prime Sponsors will be given banner space on our site on the pages of the scriptures translated. Any number of people can participate in this mission. This way these Scriptures can all be digitized and you can see them online. This is a massive project and we appeal to all of you to participate wholeheartedly in this mission of reviving our sacred Scriptures.

Contact us on info@shrivedant.com to sponsor the digitization of the scriptures.

Seed Donation

KVC donates quality seeds so that local communities can get empowered and grow food. ‘Food for all’ is a worthy cause and seed donation is the backbone of this program. Quality of soil is also an essential factor that has to be taken into account. If soil is not prepared in advance and plant beds not created in the farms, then the entire exercise can go futile. Farm hands are trained in all these factors before seeds are donated.

Tree Planting

Another initiative from KVC is tree planting in Kenya. Planting trees for the environment is good as they are renewable, biodegradable and recyclable. Kenya Vegetarian Club is planning to plant a hundred trees in every school in Kenya. There are more than ten thousand schools in Kenya. KVC has made a beginning in Kisumu County and gradually will be able to take it across the entire country. It will turn into a mass movement very soon with enthusiastic participation from all sections of the society for it is for the future of this nation, for this planet.

The initial tree planting drive was conducted in January 2016 and students from schools like MM Shah School, Muslim Secondary school, Highway Secondary school, St. Theresa School, Kisumu Girls School, Jalaram Academy School, Kisumu Junior Academy and Kisumu Senior Academy whole heartedly participated in the drive. More than 150 kids supported the drive with enthusiasm promising to adopt a tree each and nurture it in the coming years. Kenya Vegetarian Club began moving to the interior parts of the County in early April 2016 and organized tree planting sessions in Akuche. 250 seedlings were planted by the students who have taken the responsibility of nurturing the plants by christening them with names to create a feeling of belongingness. Trees were also planted at Katuk Odeyo Village and in Kibigori.

The Food Outreach Program

Feeding Children-kibigori

SVF feeds more than four hundred local African kids at the Shiv Temple at Kibigori near Kisumu every week. These needy children are drawn from Kibigori area, Muhoroni in Kisumu County and they line up for what they like most, a sumptuous meal and sweets every lunch time provided by Shrivedant Foundation. The foundation also conducts medical camps; donates household utilities alongside the feeding program which has become popular with the children and other stakeholders who are already considering taking up other roles for the common good.

Books Published

The Veg Safari

veg safari

The Veg Safari by Vaishali Shah describes her amazing journey as a passionate advocate of vegetarianism in Kenya and the detailed reasons put forth by her for the world to embrace vegetarianism. The book explores the compelling need for the world to turn vegetarian today. The choice to turn wholly vegan or vegetarian is not dictated by moral or ethical concerns alone, nor is it an attempt to convince anyone using religious mumbo jumbo. The book presents many case studies to back its claims and the author has spent many years studying the effect of the meat industry.

Foremost among the many consequences of a flesh based diet is its effect on one’s health. If that is an individual concern, then the dwindling nature of earth’s precious resources is certainly a cause for collective concern of all nations. The poor nations are hit the hardest as land and water which can be used to eradicate hunger and mal nutrition are diverted to grow fodder for cattle which will eventually end up on the lunch plates of only those who can afford it. Locals can be convinced on the need to move away from animal-based foods if alternate methods can be explained to them. Also cultivating farms and growing more food will improve their own health index as also bring in some revenue and employment.

Planting trees, donating seeds, cultivating vegetables are all helpful in improving the health and productivity of the nation. The book raises various pertinent queries and addresses the concerns of all readers and is backed by case studies that help it to connect with the readers easily. It is a dream to see a healthy, nourished and prosperous Kenya in the not too distant future and this book is an attempt to create that golden future.

Seminars on nutritional benefits of vegetarian diet

World over there is a great interest in vegetarianism today. People from all walks of life would like to switch over to a vegetarian diet if they are convinced of its merits. Some are confident about their food habits and make the switch easily. Others need support, guidance and perhaps a gentle nudge. Also there is considerable confusion in the array of products that are available on the shelves of the supermarkets. Many shoppers find it difficult to tell which food and drinks are produced using animal products. The food industry often uses products that may not be suitable for vegetarians. Health professionals are not very clear about the merits of vegetarian diet as they receive little or no training in vegetarian nutrition. Parents are confused whether a wholly vegetarian diet would provide the required nutrition for their kids.

The Kenya Vegetarian Club aims to fill in this space and will support, guide and promote vegetarianism by arranging various programs and events that will help members to understand and appreciate the importance of vegetarian diet. We propose to create awareness about vegetarianism in Africa as the world is moving towards saving the environment and food production and consumption is the first step towards it. We want to help local farmers to grow more vegetables and help them to earn more. Our foundation is a non-profit body which hopes to create many such movements which would help locals to switch over to a better and healthy living.

The Club promotes tree planting and helps in saving the beautiful forests of Kenya. We need to join together and preserve our wildlife and other national resources for the future of our citizens. Kenya is a country of green vegetation and rich with tons of variety of vegetables and fruits. Let’s all pledge to remain vegetarian. Please help us to promote the same across the world.
